north city water district
The North City Water District provides water to approximately 25,000 people in over 5 square miles in the cities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park. The Maintenance and Operations Center accommodates the District’s operational staff and equipment. It is located on a 3-acre site with homes on 3 sides.
Construction was completed in December 2020.
Project Description
The design includes three buildings, set back from the surrounding homes by wide lawns which can be used by the public. A single, long, operations building provides all interior spaces, and separates the operations from the public yard to the west.
The operations building is divided into 2 sections, one with maintenance bays and the other with offices with crew support. The maintenance bays are in a metal building with high ceilings and a roof extending out over a covered work area. The office and crew areas are in a wood framed section, with a smaller and more residential look.
A second building provides decanting for wet spoils excavated during water breaks. Water is allowed to drain off and solids care settled out in a series of vaults before entering the sanitary sewer system. Dried spoils can be reused as fill or taken to a certified land fill if contaminated.
